OVERVIEW
PiKA is a user-friendly, portable robotics data collection system for researchers, robotics labs, and AI development teams working on manipulation, teleoperation, and embodied AI.
Built by AgileX Robotics, PiKA is a lightweight ecosystem that captures real-time synchronized 6D pose, RGB, depth, and IMU data without the need for complex calibration or dedicated lab infrastructure. It consists of three complementary components:
- Pika Sense: a handheld data collector that allows researchers to demonstrate grasping and manipulation tasks naturally by hand.
- Pika Gripper: It is a robot-mountable end effector that mimics the Pika Sense sensor suite and provides a smooth transition from human demonstration to robotic execution.
- Pika Station: The high-precision spatial reference that ensures every capture session is accurate and repeatable in the lab or out in the field.
PiKA is suitable for:
- Datasets for imitation learning,
- Human-robot interaction research,
- Research on manipulation,
- Quick prototyping of robot arm workflows
Features
Rapid, Calibration-Free Setup: Fast activation allows the system to go from power-on to active data collection in moments. No complicated setup needed.
Multimodal Sensor Fusion: Each unit PiKa Sense/Gripper combines RGB images, depth sensing and IMU data into one synchronized capture stream.
Millimeter-Level Positioning Precision: The Pika Station and Pika Sense/Gripper sensor suite combine to offer ±1.5 mm spatial positioning accuracy, delivering reliable and repeatable results from capture session to capture session.
Seamless Hand-to-Robot Transfer: The identical sensor architecture in Pika Sense and Pika Gripper allows data from a human hand to be directly translated into robotic action, perfect for imitation learning and teleoperation workflows.
Lightweight and Field-Ready: The compact, ergonomic hardware makes it easy to transport and deploy the Pika Series, both in the indoor lab and out in the field.
Robot-Arm Compatibility: Pika Gripper can be attached to most common robotic arm interfaces - NOT limited to AgileX products (e.g., AgileX's PiPER 6-DOF arm and Nero 7-DOF).
